C²I² Systems is pleased to announce that they and STN Atlas Elektronik
GmbH of Germany have signed a contract for the adaptation of the software
for the ISUS 90 Combat Management System for the SA Navy's new U-209 submarine
being built by HDW of Kiel, Germany. This will involve adaptation of system
software to allow for integration of weapons and combat suite equipment selected
specifically by the SA Navy, as well as the relevant human-machine interface
software implementing the SA Navy's warfighting doctrine. The latter will be
done in the Ada 95 software high-level language while the former will be done in
C and C++.
Other South African companies involved in the Integrated Submarine Combat System
are Tellumat Defence, who have been selected for the production and
testing of consoles, electronic cabinets and printed wiring assemblies, i.e. the
"dry-end" of the submarine combat system and DefenceTech, a
division of the CSIR, whose workshare involves the supply of sonar hydrophones
and transducers, i.e. the "wet-end" of the submarine combat system.
