C²I² Press Release 1996-01-01 To meet the need for superior performance in 100 Mbps FDDI networks, Cape Town-based networking specialist company C²I² Systems has introduced the SKNET FDDI PCI range of network interface cards (NICs) from SysKonnect. Incorporating SysKonnect's next-generation 32-bit PCI bus with an internal data transfer rate of 132 MB/s, these advanced devices deliver the highest performance possible on 100Mbs FDDI networks. This makes them ideal for data-intensive applications on networks such as video, computer aided design and desktop publishing. With the low cost SK-NET FDDI-UP model, which supports connections for unshielded twisted pair cabling in accordance with the TPPMD standard (UTP5), users have the option of implementing full 100 Mbps FDDI bandwidth up to the workstation. The SKNET FDDIFP model incorporates an optical MIC connector for 62,5 µm and 50 µm fibre optic media. The third model in the range, SKNET FDDILP DAS, offers two SC connectors (LCF Housing) for 62,5 µm and 50 µm fibre optic media, allowing the workstation to connect to the network as a Dual Attachment Station (DAS). All models are plug-and-play compliant and therefore able to automatically configure and integrate into the network within a few seconds. Another advantage is extensive driver support, including NetWare 4.1, NetWare 3.12, DOS ODI for NetWare, MSL for SFT III, Windows '95, Windows NT 4.0, SCO Unix and IBM AIX. C²I² Systems' Managing Director, Richard Young, comments: "As network applications become more prevalent and sophisticated, users increasingly demand very high performance, reliability and ease of use from connectivity products. "Based on the latest PCI technology and the powerful SK PCI Bus system, these versatile and competitively priced NICs are able to satisfy users' needs today as well as tomorrow". |
